choices you have to make

have you ever thought why we have so many choices to make in our lives, especially in our daily chores? Most of us hate it when it comes to ordering a meal out of that 20+ different choices plus combinations, hoping that perhaps someone or something should automatically make the best choice for us (ahem, that's what we hope for the future, no?).

But come to think about it, aren't that the natural consequences, when we all have this thing call "free will"? Since we have the right to be "free", we have to then make our own decisions. We need to choose what to eat, what to wear, what to do this morning, which way to go when we get to a junction, etc. Most of the time choices are fun - it challenges us to (re-)consider what can be best for us. Perhaps the outcome will be more interesting than the exact choice we make. Jobs and education directions are commonly headaches of teens and young adults. We are not exactly afraid of the choices - but perhaps more towards the outcomes of the choices we will make.

Rev. Chen spoke of something i gave quite some thoughts on Sunday. God allows us to make our own choices not to make our lives difficult. He wants us to be able to take up the responsibility for our own decisions. In other words (as i understood it myself), it is no longer choice A or B that matters. It matters the most how i will continue work on the choice i make.

I remember sharing to a friend not long ago about the possibility of have both choices being equally good (or bad). In such cases you cannot just say i want to take the least good/bad. At the end we just cannot make up our mind, and will push the responsibility to God :) I think besides being helpless with what we can foresee as results/success, we at times think letting Him to make the decision gave us the best chance to later put the blame on Him, when things did not work out the way we imagined (and surprisingly it is not about whether it turned out good or not). This sounded really convenient - I cannot make up my mind, so you help me, and later i will blame you for helping me.

The responsibility in making my own choices and hanging on to it, is certainly not the easiest thing to do. But it is actually THE thing to do, when you and i got just so lost or tired and know not how to move on. Being afraid of making the wrong choice will never help us move forward. Being able to say yes i can face my own choices will fix every potential failure and push us forward til the day we can give ourselves a good pad on our shoulders. When we can be responsible with what we have chosen, chances are that we will also work hard on it and get things done the way it should.

Have you ever got stucked at the cross road and know not which junction to take? You should take a break and pray about it, and can then take any that you think God wants you to take, and He will go with you. Left or right is not the most important - having Him by your side while you move on is the key to finish the walk.
