Driving license vs. Driving license

Sian Lun and I finally decided to have a German driving license. We can actually convert our license. Fewer driving hours are required but we have to give up our Malaysia driving license. Not wanting to give up my Malaysia driving license and seeing no need for a German license, I choose not to do the license convertion.

We decided to get our German driving license with two reasons:

  • it would be more convenient when we look for a job here after our PhD.
  • the insurance would be cheaper for us then, as we are not "new drivers".

I thought if I do it from scratch, I would be able to keep my license. It does not turn up to be so. Just got to know from our driving school that the examiner would ask if we have a license before the exam begin. If I answer no - I get to keep my license but I lied! If I answer yes - I would have to surrender my Malaysia driving license because I said the truth.

The question is now should I say yes or no?

Advantange Disadvantage
I am telling the truth I am not able to renew my Malaysia driving license and my license will be penalized three years after it is overdue.
Can use the license as ID card here. I have to use my German license in Malaysia, don't know why but I just don't favour that.
Have to convert back to Malaysia license when we go back for good.

Well, the funny thing is - I don't think they can take my license if it is in MyKad. However, I find the idea of having driving license in MyKad is not so appealing. Hmm... but this people don't really understand MyKad concept. Sometimes I do think Malaysia is pretty fast with technology implementation - scanned passport, MyKad (high Tech!!).

Anyhow, I really hope that the examiner will not ask me. What should I answer if he does???
