security for your home, everywhere, anywhere

Today i will review homecamera.com's offer. No worries, i will comment as neutral as possible (which i usually would anyway) so that you will get a neutral opinion from me. The main thing is to help you with another piece of information you can consider before making a decision.

Homecamera.com is a web-based webcam security service provider. Their product allows customers to use their webcam as home surveillance camera and to access them from the Internet. As a customer, you can of course decide your own usage of surveillance - for your home, your baby, your basement, or even your little pond outside of your house. The benefit of such surveillance is by maximizing the Internet. Imagine being away from home, let it be a holiday thousand kilometers away or just away in your office, you can always view your home or asset via Homecamera's service. There are also advance  features like motion detection, mobile phone alerts,
camera sharing and time lapse recording. Access can be made from PC, PDA or even mobile phone.

From the product itself i am pretty impressed. You will not be worried by uncertainties, since you can keep track of them while being away. Imagine you can on and off take a look at your baby while in office, not being worry if your wife or baby sitter was tied down in kitchen for a while. Or how about taking care of the garden and see whether your favourite plants are not damge by that unknown dog?

by a quick look at the quick tour, you will have some impressions on how the system work. I find their software offering simple but intuitive interfaces. That will be helpful for you and me who just want things to work, instead of requiring us first to understand the technical details. A support up to 4 webcams at a time is also another great feature. It can be a price effective option to have home surveillance ready for your home. I particularly find the cam sharing part special. I mean, will you share your home surveillance webcams to someone else? usually no, unless he is someone you can trust. A family member or a good friend will be ok for me, but not anyone else.

Currently there is no pricing information available, since it is still at beta stage. That means, all subscribers are beta testers for the company. But after the launching of the pricing, beta testers will be promised with free accounts! Of course the accounts will have limited features, as far as i understood, but you should not worry about being charged without knowing. Furthermore, traffice resources and recording storage space are provided free for the lite users - a generous offer. If the price is just, i believe it will be a competitive product.

Will i recommend it? i believe it comes back to usage. If you need such a service, go ahead and try it. I believe the only worry you have is not the product, but whether do you trust the company to also have access to your monitored assets. But i think this is the same for many surveillance products. The company did mention that it is a R&D arm of a publicly listed company. A quick check it turns out to be the company MobileOne in Singapore. I think it should be a reliable company. Do check out such background information if you have doubts.
