Help the johor flood victims, the internet way

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->

If you do read about the news about the floods in Malaysia that took away many homes and left many more in devastated state, and know nothing about how you can help, i might have something for you. A group of bloggers have already made a round of collection and personally buy stuffs to bring down to areas in johor to distribute stuffs to needing flood victims. If you are willing to take a step to trust them, do drop by Earl's site and write him a note. I first read this from 5xmom's site, and good thing this round i managed to contact Earl to find out how i can channel some donation to the fund. The donation drive will end on Friday 6pm Malaysian time, so there is still time to act now! Please don't be scared by Earl's site name though ;) we are all old enough to differentiate joke and humour from something else.

first impression on the k800i, and suprises

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->

after playing around with the k800i I've acquired, i must say i am pretty sold. it looks slick and nice, has a great digical camera (Cybershot dude, don play play), plays radio with RDS, nice themes (got myself tux and christmas themes) and best of all, i can synchronize well with my Ubuntu!

The process is not really difficult. Search around for k800i, evolution, bluetooth, ubuntu and you will find this as search result. Fotakis made a pretty good how-to there that enabled me to get it done within 5 minutes. yes, 5 minutes. basically it is as following (for my own reference in future):

decisions... again

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->

SE K800iguess what? got stuck again with decisions :) i've just got my handphone contract extended, and ended up with a Sony Ericsson K800i instead of the long anticipated N70 (apparently N70 is considered now as an old phone :P even the shops are not carrying it anymore except the updated Music Edition model). So now i am sitting next to it, contemplating what to do with it.

i can either:
1. sell it off in Ebay, and fetch any other phone and earn some bugsbucks out of it.
2. time for a great change. i should now join the SE bandwagon (my two housemates having SE phones, and they are enjoying it every moment).

the decision is hard. i wanted to get something with Series 60 on it, so that i can try to code python on it. But on the other hand, i don really need to get one myself. Been used to a Nokia since 2 years ago (got an unit from the university, since using it for research project) i had actually made a big switch after using siemens phones for some years. Now coming to SE, i have no idea whether is that a nice thing (well, not like it is going to take me weeks to learn new interfaces). But come to think about it, i can actually now run around with two phones :)

weekend project

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->

it is again weekend. Not that we have finally nothing to do. a project is gonna be carried out - home server. TzeYing finally got her computer upgrade (mainly for her job) now, so the old trustworthy t20 should be retired to less portable tasks. So i popped in the Ubuntu Dapper CD and after 40 minutes it is up and ready :)

the weekend is still packed with programs. we have shopping to do, and also routine house cleaning. I still have some documents/books to read, and a document to work on. We have a few appointments this two days, and i believe if we planned our time ok, it would still be rather relaxing - i still need some time to recover from my flu.

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->

yes, i am sold. finally settled the uncertainties, and bought myself this:

the Nokia 770 nokia 770 opened n770 showing wahlau.org
since i am at this, and i wonder how many people would come over here because of the keyword Nokia 770, i would love to hear what are your views or wishes on this toy.

I myself believe in applications that will push hardware further. That means, without good apps, the hardware would not be sold/pushed/used as much as it can do potentially. Byte agreed on this too, so perhaps i can start collecting wish lists, and see who is interested or able to start producing useful and good applications for Nokia 770 or future linux tablets.

speaking of which, with the latest coorperation of Google and Nokia, Nokia made a press release saying the newer version of Internet Tablet OS 2006 Edition would include Google goodies - GTalk and google search. With this synergy, i do see and hope the tablet being pushed further. At least now i can do some voip GTalk with other Gtalk users using Nokia 770. neat ;)

little things this week

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->

it is a pretty busy week. quite some things to catch up, and still always feel i would need to get more sleep...

1. One day less - Monday was still a public holiday. so officially the week started only on Tuesday. Looking at the things we have to do - Easter Monday Perki service, Tuesday evening concert with Dresden's Gospel-Night choir, work work work and 1 CSI episode only this week... it is kind of a sign that i need break. btw, CSI episodes can be used to measure how much free time one has :) the more episodes you manage to catch in a week, shows you have the extra time to spend ;)
